Project C1 • Hydrogels for Separation of Ions Based on Defined Pore Structure

The aim of the project is the precise synthesis and characterization of hydrogels which will be utilized for the separation of ions and water, e.g. for water desalination. As we have shown, a high regularity of the network structure, high swelling capabilities and a high charge density are favorable for the optimization of separation properties. Synthesis of these highly defined networks is realized by the use of click chemistry to chemically join linear precursor molecules and multifunctional linker groups. In addition, the necessary characterization methods for the pore size distribution of polymer gels will be developed.
